Deputy Economy Minister, US Ambassador on economic cooperation

Serbian Deputy Minister of Economy Zora Simovic spoke to US Ambassador to Belgrade Michael Polt yesterday about economic cooperation between the two countries and particularly US investment in Serbia’s economy.

Ambassador Polt said that his primary task is to encourage US investors in order to achieve two goals: enable American firms to make profit and create new jobs for Serbian citizens. In order to achieve these goals, Serbia must create a safe environment for investment and complete the privatisation process as soon as possible, according to Polt.
Simovic said that representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Privatisation Agency, and Share Fund in the parliament’s privatisation committee are working on an efficient completion of the privatisation process as well as on a series of bills aimed at harmonising Serbian legislation with standards governing the world’s developed markets.
Simovic and the US Ambassador expressed readiness to maintain contacts between the ministry and the embassy in the interest of both sides.
