Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with athletes, long jump world record-holder Michael Powell, who is promoter of the 20th Belgrade marathon and long jump legend Bob Beamon, who is special guest at this year’s marathon.
Kostunica said that the presence of Powell and Beamon in Serbia is a big event for all sport fans and athletes in the country.
The Serbian Prime Minister stressed that everyone remembers 1991 when Powell set the world record at the World Championship in Tokyo, and added that Beamon’s record set in 1968 in Mexico is especially memorable, since it was unbeatable for 23 years.
Kostunica expressed gratitude to Michael Powell who accepted to promote the Belgrade marathon, and also to Bob Beamon, special guest, who promoted the 1st Belgrade marathon.

Beamon said at the meeting that they received a warm welcome in Belgrade and stressed that Serbia is known all over the world for sport and the exceptional achievements of its sportspeople.
They said that they are honoured to have the opportunity to share their experience with young sportspeople in Belgrade.
