Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis and said that that the arrival of the Security Council mission to Belgrade and Pristina next week is of great importance since the mission should see for itself that basic human rights are not respected in Kosovo-Metohija.
The Serbian Prime Minister pointed to the fact that more than 200,000 Serbs have been exiled and basic conditions for their return have not been enabled, while the Serbs living in the province are exposed to everyday terror and violence perpetrated by ethnic Albanians.
Kostunica reiterated the importance of enabling new negotiations for the province’s future status which should be led by a new international mediator. He also warned that there must be no stepping away from the clear principle of the respect of international law and the UN Charter which guarantee sovereignty and territorial integrity and inviolability of borders to states throughout the world.
He also pointed out how dangerous it is to indulge the demands of ethnic Albanian separatists and said that the international community must condemn their threats and any resort to violence since it can create a perilous model for similar cases elsewhere in the world.
Bakoyannis stressed that the preservation of regional stability is very important for Greece.
The collocutors emphasised that the countries have satisfactory relations and added that there are considerable possibilities for further improvement of economic cooperation.
