Dimitrijevic said that China is a very important strategic partner for Serbia, not only as a member of the Security Council, but also as a country that records a constant growth in GDP and foreign trade.
He pointed out that Serbia has undergone the difficult, but important road of transition in the past six years, while the process of privatisation is drawing to an end. With this, Serbia has fulfilled the conditions for signing the EU stabilisation and association agreement.
The Minister also said that many Serbian laws have been harmonised with European legislation and standards, and recalled that the Law on consumer protection has been adopted and that the control of quality of products and services has a very important role.
Dimitrijevic explained that this is why the signing of this memorandum with China is consequential for Serbia, adding his belief that this form of cooperation will lead to better consumer protection in both countries.
According to Dimitrijevic, Serbia still does not have the competitive strength for the Chinese market, however it is ready for cooperation and it welcomes the arrival of large Chinese companies to Serbia since it is an important step in the economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Serbian Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services and China will soon sign a Memorandum of Cooperation in tourism, announced the Minister and said that the 2008 Olympics in Beijing will be an opportunity for Serbia to present its economic and tourist potential to the international public.
Zirong said that the signing of this document will improve the export of corn and agricultural products to China and added his belief that both sides will stick to the provisions of the Memorandum, as well as solve all problems in line with expert and scientific principles.
Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Guobang also attended the signing ceremony.
