Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic attended today the opening of two courtrooms of the Belgrade District Court’s cyber-crime department, which were renovated and equipped with RSD 16 million provided by the Ministry of Finance.
The courtrooms, with interpretation booths and booths for protected witnesses with the option to distort image and sound as well as space for reporters, are modernly equipped and connected by video link with the District Court’s building on Ustanicka Street.
Stojkovic said that Serbia is among 19 countries signatories of the Convention on Cyber-Crime and pointed out that the greatest part of cross-border crime starts with the use of these technologies.
Head of the Belgrade District Court’s cyber-crime department Judge Velimir Lazovic said that the processing of cases could start in May, noting that there are over 50 cases waiting to be processed since this department was formed in December 2005.
Lazovic said that nearly 95% of the cases are cases of piracy and added that this department will be in charge of the whole territory of Serbia.
The Law on organisation and jurisdictions of state bodies for fighting cyber-crime was adopted in July 2005.
