The Serbian Ministry of Diaspora stated today that State Secretary Aleksandar Cotric and Assistant Minister Miodrag Jaksic will attend the annual assembly of the Union of Serbs in Romania, which will be held in Timisoara on April 14, on behalf of this Ministry.
According to the statement, Cotric and Jaksic will greet participants and guests, and then hold talks with representatives of the Union of Serbs on cooperation in 2007 and the construction of a Serbian cultural and spiritual centre in Romania, which will be financed by the Serbian ministries of diaspora, culture and religion.
There are 22,000 members of the Serbian minority community who are represented by the umbrella organisation Union of Serbs, and more than 40 local organisations. Serbs in Romania have a high school where they are taught in the mother tongue and they also have a weekly magazine.
Representatives of the Ministry of Diaspora will meet with representatives of the city of Timisoara and talk on regional cross border cooperation and particularly on the support given by the Romanian government for safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and preserving Kosovo-Metohija within Serbian borders, reads the statement.
