Representatives of the Serbian working group for monitoring goals and plans from the UN Millennium Declaration presented today a report “Millennium Development Goals”, which contains strategies and plans of national development in Serbia for the upcoming period.

President of the working group and State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Vesna Piperski-Tucakov said that our millennium goals need to be harmonised with global millennium development goals but also adjusted to our specific needs.
She recalled that this report was prepared by the working group which was established in 2004. According to Piperski-Tucakov, the main goals include reduction of poverty rate, gender equality and promotion of position of women, reduction of child mortality and fighting AIDS and other diseases.
Coordinator of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Serbia Lance Clark said that fulfillment of millennium goals is of global but also of national interest, noting that Serbia agreed to meet its goals by 2015.
He stressed that Serbia is part of Europe, which is why it should set high European standards as well as priorities and actions in accordance with those standards.
