Vojislav Kostunica
The Prime Minister’s Easter greeting reads:
“I wish to send my most sincere greetings to all Orthodox Christians, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle, the Serbian Orthodox Church dignitaries and monks on this great celebration of Christ’s Resurrection.
Today the thoughts of all of us are directed towards our southern province – Kosovo-Metohija, and above all towards our people in Kosovo-Metohija, who despite many everyday pressures are firmly guarding their land, families, houses, churches and monasteries. Serbia, as any other country, has the unquestionable right that universal principles of international law and of divine and human justice are held valid for her. The proposal which envisages the seizure of part of our territory, not just any part, but Kosovo-Metohija – the spiritual and historical centre of the Serbian nation, has been firmly rejected by Serbia as an illegal and illegitimate attempt at breaking up our country.
Our arguments are based on the collective will of the Serbian nation expressed through our Constitution, and on the strong conviction that the Security Council must respect the UN Charter, all of which would allow us to preserve our Kosovo-Metohija.
I sincerely wish that we all spend the Easter holiday in peace, love and hope, and that we share the light and joy of this great celebration with all people of good will.
Christ is risen!”
