Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad pointed out at a meeting today that Serbia and Russia and their peoples are joined by traditional friendship, the spirit of unity, Orthodoxy and solidarity.
The Serbian Prime Minister stressed that Serbia appreciates very much the principled support of Russia, President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government, the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian people in Serbia's efforts to protect the inviolability of international law on which the world order is based, and the Russia's position that the solution for the status of Kosovo-Metohija must not be an exception from the rules that are applied everywhere in the world.
Metropolitan Kirill outlined that Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church advocate the position that any solution for Kosovo-Metohija that is not acceptable for Serbia must not be supported.
He said that violation of the basic principle of international law - the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is not only Serbia's issue, but that the entire stability in Europe and the world is at stake. He underlined that the law and justice are on Serbia's side.
