Kostunica said that Ahtisaari's proposal is contrary to the UN Charter, which is a basis for international order and which guarantees sovereignty and territorial integrity to all states.
The Serbian Prime Minister voiced hope that the Council of Europe will respect the UN Charter, which would enable the beginning of real negotiations on the status of Kosovo-Metohija.
He warned that if international law and the UN Charter are disrespected, the case of Kosovo-Metohija would not be just an exception but an utterly dangerous rule.
Kostunica particularly emphasised that Ahtisaari has gone out of the framework of the mandate he was entrusted – he did not try to reach a compromise, which was his duty, but he fully supported the stands of one side, Albanian side.
Aside from that, Ahtisaari opened the issue of the state status of Serbia and suggested that Serbia’s internationally recognised borders are redrawn, Kostunica said.
Crucianelli said that Italy, as UN Security Council member, follows the development of events related to Kosovo-Metohija with particular attention.
The two officials said that cooperation between Serbia and Italy is good in fields of economy, culture and science.
