Novi Sad to host 2009 European Athletics Junior Championship

The Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport stated that at today's meeting of the European Athletic Federation in Birmingham, Serbia was selected to organise the 2009 European Athletics Junior Championship, after an excellent presentation of Serbia and the host city - Novi Sad.
The European Athletics Junior Championship will be held in Novi Sad from July 24 to 26, 2009.
The competition to Serbia was Finland which withdrew its candidature in the last moment after Serbia and Novi Sad were given a very favourable rating from the European Athletic Federation after making an inspection visit to Serbia and reviewing the entire documentation.
The inspection visit included establishing the condition of the stadium, accommodation capacities and the plan of providing other necessary elements for the organisation of such a big and important sporting event.
The Serbian government has given guarantees for holding the European Athletics Junior Championship because it represents an undeniable interest of Serbia, in terms of sports and the country's affirmation.
This is one more confirmation of trust in Serbia and its organisation of big sporting events through which we can present our best attributes, and these are hospitality, friendship and the wish to be among the best, it is added in the statement.
