The statement adds that the 2006 inflation rate stood at 6.6%, which is by around one third less than projected. The retail price hike in 2006 projected by the memorandum on budget and economic and fiscal policies stood at 9.3%.
The achieved hike in retail prices of 6.6% was influenced by the movements of controlled prices and services (electricity, basic oil derivatives, medicines, telecommunication services and communal services), as well as the prices of excise goods which are formed freely (cigarettes and alcoholic drinks).
The prices of green market products rose by at least 6.2%, and the strengthening of the dinar and the decline in the prices of imported raw materials and consumer goods also slowed the rise of retail prices of products whose prices are formed freely, adds the statement.
