Persons with disabilities should be equal to other citizens

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with a delegation of representatives of persons with disabilities and stressed on the occasion that they should be completely equal to other citizens in all areas of social life.
Kostunica recalled that the Serbian government paid special attention to persons with disabilities by adopting laws which guarantee respect of their rights, such as the Law on the prevention of discrimination against disabled persons
He said that the government will adopt a strategy for improving the position of persons with disabilities in December.
Representatives of persons with disabilities stressed that they have formed a partnership with the government and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy, and expressed satisfaction with the fact that they are actively participating in the work being done on the laws connected to that field.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Slobodan Lalovic, and agreement was reached that joint meetings will be organised in the future regarding the issue of improving the position of persons with disabilities.
