Request on solution for equalisation of titles directed to KONUS again

The Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport stated today that representatives of the Ministry, Serbian Students’ Union and Belgrade Students’ Federation reached agreement in a meeting today on requesting universities to harmonise general acts with the Law on higher education.

According to the statement, the Ministry today, following a demand by the Serbian Students’ Union and Belgrade Students’ Federation, has once more directed the request to the Conference of Universities in Serbia (KONUS), with the recommendation to work closely with representatives of student bodies, for finding a solution as soon as possible for the practical implementation of article 127 of the Law on higher education, on the basis of the interpretation provided by the Secretariat for Legislation.

According to the interpretation mentioned, academic titles acquired before the Law on higher education came into force should be equalised with the titles envisaged by this Law.

Holders of a Bachelor’s degree according to earlier regulations should now be equalised with holders of a Master’s degree.

The Serbian Ministry of Education and Sport reiterated that, in accordance with decrees of the interpretation it is necessary to change general acts of universities and faculties, reads the statement.
