A statement by the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection says that in talks with Minister Popovic representatives of citizens of Pancevo presented their view of the problems they are facing.
Agreement was reached on the occasion that the already existing Coordinating Team for monitoring the air pollution, comprising representatives of this Ministry, local self-government and Pancevo industrial zone as well as representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice and the provincial authorities, will be expanded during the upcoming few days.
The Coordinating Team for monitoring air pollution should, as soon as possible, complete an analysis of the present situation, the measures taken in factories in the south industrial zone of Pancevo in the previous period, and examine problems which exist in the system of monitoring air quality.
The team should also propose priority measures which must be implemented in order to improve environmental conditions in Pancevo in the shortest period of time; and the priority measures would then be examined at the first session of the government for practical realisation.
During today’s talks, agreement was reached that the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection creates one more position for a republic inspector for environmental protection, who will exclusively deal with the ecological situation in Pancevo.
The meeting was attended by president of the municipality of Pancevo Srdjan Mikovic, representative of the health sector Pava Ilic, of the daily “Pancevac” Biljana Bulatovic-Pajic, as well as representatives of Pancevo youth.
It was also agreed that the first meeting of the Coordinating Team be held on November 21 at 10 am, in the municipality of Pancevo, reads the statement.
