The conference is being held in Istanbul from November 15 to 17, in the organisation of the World Health Organisation (WHO). Serbia is represented by Assistant Minister of Health Aleksandra Makaj, member of the WHO Permanent Committee for Europe Tomica Milosavljevic and chairman of the Serbian expert commission for fight against obesity Dragan Micic.
Milosavljevic spoke about the situation, results achieved so far and plans for further regional cooperation at a plenary meeting on behalf of the Stability Pact for South East Europe.
The ministerial conference was opened by the Turkish Prime Minister, and it is attended by delegations of European countries, representatives of the non-government sector and a large number of international organisations, such as the World Bank, the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNICEF.
Increased weight and obesity, which have increased threefold in Europe in the past 20 years, influence to a large extent the occurrence of massive non-contagious diseases, the reduction of life expectancy and quality of life.
