Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today during the talks with Director-General of the European Commission's Enlargement Directorate-General Michael Leigh that Serbia has adopted a new democratic Constitution which the people supported at a referendum with a majority vote and added that with the adoption of the Constitutional law, the country's supreme legal act has become reality and started to be implemented.
Kostunica said that in the previous period the Serbian government has proposed, and Serbian parliament adopted, a large number of reform laws harmonised with EU regulations and pointed out that the most important law - the new Constitution enables further implementation of reforms and building of democratic institutions.
Leigh welcomed the adoption of the new Constitution and said that Serbia has made great progress, which is established in the European Commission's Report.
He voiced hope that negotiations on the stabilisation and association agreement will be resumed shortly. Next week, negotiations on visa relaxations for certain categories of citizens will be approved, which is a first step in the liberalisation of the visa regime for Serbian citizens.
