Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with Secretary General of INTERPOL Valdecy Urquiza about the organisation’s work and conveyed the Government’s interest in supporting Belgrade’s bid to become INTERPOL’s regional centre.

At a meeting at the Government of Serbia, Macut said that the work of such offices can contribute to raising the level of INTERPOL’s regional coordination, given the importance of the organisation in the fight against various types of transnational crime.
According to him, INTERPOL is not and should not be politicised, but rather should remain in the service of global public security, and profiling through regional offices is its future, given that each region has its own specificities.
Urquiza stated that Serbia’s role in INTERPOL is crucial, especially when it comes to identifying routes for various categories of smuggling.
He pointed out that this is why Serbia holds a significant position not only regionally but also within INTERPOL’s international network, given its active involvement in the organisation’s numerous activities.
