Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović today visited the Serbian Armed Forces contingent in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
Mojsilović commended our contingent, stationed at the United Nations base in Sector East in southern Lebanon, for carrying out their duties in the mission, which is currently one of the riskiest in the UN system, responsibly, professionally and with discipline, in a manner worthy of a member of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Regarding the incident in which Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanović lost his life, the Chief of the General Staff emphasised that the contingent's behavior in difficult moments showed that they are a solid military team.
He expressed his expectation that in the coming period, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, as before, will carry out their tasks in a disciplined, responsible and professional manner.
At the base, he also met with the Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Major General Diodato Abagnara, and the Commander of Sector East, Brigadier General Antonio Ortiz Martinez, stressing that we remain committed to engaging in peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the United Nations.
Mojsilović emphasised that our state and the army demand a full investigation, the establishment of all facts and the punishment of those responsible for the attack on the base in which a member of the Serbian Armed Forces was killed.
