The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management announced today that Serbia has been included in the list of countries that meet the new European Union requirements regarding the use of antimicrobial medicines, in accordance with EU Regulation 2026/1189.

Serbia meets new EU requirements on use of veterinary medicines

This means that, even after the new EU rules enter into force, Serbia will be able to continue exporting live animals and products of animal origin to the EU market without hindrance.
Under EU regulations, from 3 September, the export of live animals and certain products of animal origin will be permitted only to countries that can demonstrate that they have a reliable system for monitoring the use of antimicrobial medicines and that they comply with the prescribed standards.
Serbia’s inclusion in this list confirms that the national system for controlling veterinary medicines, protecting animal health and ensuring food safety has been recognised as compliant with European Union requirements.
On this occasion, Minister Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, emphasised that this confirms that Serbia consistently applies high standards in the field of food safety and that Serbian producers can compete on an equal footing in the most demanding international markets.
