Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica talked today with Miguel Herrera de Miñón, an expert on law who took part in the drafting of Spain's 1978 Constitution. De Miñón stressed that the adoption of the new Constitution and its confirmation by the people at the upcoming referendum is very important for Serbia.
De Miñón said that the new Constitution of Serbia contains important elements which guarantee human rights and the rights of minorities, and pointed to the fact that the new Constitution is in complete accordance with constitutions of European countries.
Kostunica said it is necessary that a majority of more than half of registered voters support the Constitution, and added that this rigorous condition is good because it gives citizens the power to decide.
De Miñón expressed conviction that the Constitution will be supported by the people and recalled that Spain went through similar circumstances and people cast their vote in favour of adopting the supreme legal act through a referendum.
The meeting was also attended by Director of the Cervantes Institute in Belgrade Juan José Fernández Elorriaga.
