Serbia, Georgia tied by traditional friendship

Belgrade/Chisinau, 15 May 2026

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić spoke today in Chisinau, where he is attending a ministerial meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Bochorishvili about the most important issues of bilateral relations as well as current international topics.

In a cordial and constructive conversation, the ministers assessed that Serbia and Georgia are tied by traditional friendship, and confirmed their mutual readiness to further improve relations in all areas of common interest.

Đurić expressed satisfaction with last year's successful visit of the President of Georgia to Serbia and conveyed his expectation that the good dynamics of political dialogue at the high and highest levels will continue.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed special gratitude to Georgia for its consistent and principled support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as for its support for Serbia within international organisations.

In terms of economic cooperation, the interlocutors welcomed the start of negotiations on concluding a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

Đurić also spoke about the importance of the decision to soon open a diplomatic and consular mission of the Republic of Serbia in Tbilisi.

The Serbian Foreign Minister highlighted the establishment of a direct flight between Belgrade and Tbilisi as another confirmation of the intensification of cooperation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
