Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dušan Kozarev and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin Franck Armel Afuku held bilateral political consultations between the two countries.
The two officials emphasised that Serbia’s cooperation with African countries is based on traditional ties from the time of the Non-Aligned Movement, and that there is a firm commitment to further improve the partnership and concretise cooperation.
It was assessed that the relations between Serbia and Benin are entering a new stage of development, which was significantly contributed to by the exchange of official visits by the heads of diplomacy of the two countries, after almost four decades.
Opinions were exchanged on the most important bilateral issues, with an emphasis on strengthening political dialogue and economic ties, deepening relations in defense, agriculture, education, culture and sports, as well as the importance of more frequent contacts.
Special attention was paid to scholarships for students from Benin within the framework of the World in Serbia programme and cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two ministries.
The successful implementation of the agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and service passports was welcomed.
Focus was also placed on the importance of improving cooperation and coordination within international organisations, through mutual support and harmonisation of positions on issues of common interest.
