Serbia further opens its doors to diaspora through new real estate registration law

During a panel discussion dedicated to the implementation of the Law on Special Conditions for the Recording and Registration of Rights to Real Estate, also known as “Svoj na svome” in Serbian, Sofronijević emphasised that this legal solution represents one of the foundations of a modern and well-organised state, in which every citizen has equal rights and opportunities.
She particularly highlighted the importance of this law for the Serbian people in the diaspora, who, as she noted, constitute an inseparable part of the nation’s identity.
In this context, the Minister particularly pointed out a new provision that is significant for the Serbian people in Austria, which refers to the fact that members of the third and fourth generations of the diaspora can exercise their rights under the aforementioned law even if they do not hold a Serbian ID card or passport, but instead possess an Austrian passport.
According to her, this further opens Serbia’s doors to its diaspora and reaffirms that Serbia is their home.
