Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović discussed today with a delegation of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) the project to build a gas power plant near Niš.
Đedović Handanović specified that the main topic of the meeting was the harmonisation of commercial and technical terms of the contract for the construction of the aforementioned power plant, where great progress has been achieved in a short time.
She recalled that intensive work on harmonising the contract began immediately after the signing of the Agreement between the governments of Serbia and Azerbaijan on the construction of a gas power plant in Serbia in February in Belgrade.
The Azerbaijani delegation held a series of meetings at the technical level this week with representatives of the Ministry, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Srbijagas, and we believe that we will have agreed terms of the contract for the construction of the new power plant by the beginning of May, the Minister said.
According to her, the contract will, among other matters, define the participation and responsibilities of EPS, Srbijagas and SOCAR in this project, for the implementation of which a joint venture will be established.
She stated that the new power plant is planned to be built by 2030, explaining that the final decision on the capacity of the power plant will depend on the profitability of the investment, and that a capacity of about 500 megawatts for the production of electricity and about 150 megawatts of thermal energy is currently being considered.
