Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has met today with a delegation of painters from Kovacica and stressed that the forthcoming exhibition in Kovacica on October 1 that will mark the 15th anniversary of their successful representation in international exhibitions, which testifies to Kovacica’s contribution to the Serbian arts and culture in general.
Kostunica said that Kovacica plays an important role in preservation of culture and tradition of the Slovak community in Serbia. Slovakia and Serbia are connected by traditional friendship, and the Slovak national minority has a great importance for the development of good relations between the two countries, said the Prime Minister.
The painters from Kovacica, who were led by Jan Strakusek, expressed gratitude for reception in the government and stressed that they will continue to work on cherishing Kovacica’s painting tradition and presenting both Serbia and Slovakia in the best possible way.
Painters Katarina Djurisova, Zuzana Vereski and Vieroslava Svetlikova accompanied Strakusek in the Kovacica delegation.
Also, representatives of the Society of Serbian-Japanese Friendship and Director of Meguro UNESCO Association Yasuko Hamada attended the meeting as the Kovacica painters will soon exhibit in Japan.
President of the Slovak National Minority Council Ana Tomanova-Makanova was also present today in the meeting.
