Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić spoke today with Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto about cooperation in the field of defence, as well as the security situation in the region.
Gašić emphasised that cooperation with Italy in the field of defence is developing with mutual respect, and that there is room for its further qualitative and quantitative improvement in areas of common interest.
The interlocutors also exchanged opinions on the current geopolitical situation in the world and the conflict in the Middle East.
Gašić said that the main security threat on the internal level is the process of attempted secession of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
He expressed gratitude for Italy's continued support for Serbia's further progress in the European integration process.
He underlined that our country is committed to military neutrality, but will continue to develop and improve relations with other countries and military-political alliances, in accordance with its own interests, and in order to strengthen global, regional and national security.
Crosetto said that Italy sees Serbia as an important partner in the region and that the two countries are connected by traditionally good and friendly relations, and conveyed the Italian side's commitment to substantially improving bilateral military cooperation in the field of defence.
