Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović discussed with a delegation of Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, led by Director General Alexey Likhachev, cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy.
Đedović Handanović emphasised that Serbia is in the preliminary and preparatory phase of developing a nuclear programme, and that Rosatom could be a valuable partner for knowledge exchange and support in the preparatory phase for the programme’s development, she said.
According to her, Serbia plans to build additional capacities for electricity generation and needs a new stable source of baseload energy due to economic growth, new technologies and decarbonisation of the energy sector.
She noted that Serbia plans to complete the first and second phases of its nuclear programme by 2032, and that, in the preparatory phase, it is cooperating with the French company EDF and is ready to establish cooperation with other technology providers from which it can learn.
