Solid foundations for long-term, systemic development of beekeeping laid

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, said today, at the opening of the 17th State Beekeeping Fair with international participation, that beekeeping is a strategic branch of livestock farming and that a clear and predictable policy of support for beekeepers will continue this year.

Speaking at the Belgrade Fair, Glamočić emphasised that beekeeping in Serbia is going through a period of serious challenges, but that solid foundations for long-term and systemic development have been laid in the previous period.

He recalled that the state paid more than RSD 1 billion to beekeepers through various support measures, based on more than 16,450 approved requests.

The Minister pointed out that financial support is not sufficient if the market is not regulated, emphasising that the state conducts regular quality controls of honey, both in domestic trade and during imports, with the aim of protecting beekeepers and maintaining consumer confidence.

The opening ceremony of the event, which takes place on 7-8 February, was attended by numerous representatives of beekeeping associations from the country and the region.
