Serbia's full readiness to cooperate with EC to accelerate reform implementation

Belgrade/Brussels, 6 February 2026

Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić talked today in Brussels with Director-General of the European Commission's (EC) Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood Gert Jan Koopman about Serbia's activities within the negotiation process in Chapter 23 – Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.

Vujić highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring of reform processes, informing the Director-General that preparatory actions have been initiated to obtain an urgent opinion from the Venice Commission regarding the adopted amendments to several judicial laws.

He underlined that Serbia is fully prepared to cooperate with the European Commission to accelerate the implementation of reforms.

At the proposal of Minister Vujić, it was agreed that from Monday, 9 February, when the amendments to the judicial laws begin to be implemented, daily communication will be carried out between the European Commission team and the Ministry of Justice in order to monitor the implementation of the amended legal framework and possible further steps.

Vujić and Koopman also discussed the implementation of the transitional measures under Chapter 23 and agreed that in the coming period, through a strategic document to be adopted by the Government of Serbia, specific activities from the transitional measures that have been assessed as critical will be included, with the aim of increasing efficiency and accelerating the process of their fulfilment.
