At the news conference, Director of the Belt and Road Institute Bojan Lalić explained that almost 20 programmes would be held as part of the event in seven cities across Serbia.
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia Li Ming emphasised that Serbia and China firmly support each other’s vital interests and jointly practise true multilateralism on major issues of common concern, thereby setting a model for building a new type of international relations and contributing to regional and global peace and stability.
Reflecting on 2025, he said that relations between the two countries were on a steady upward trajectory, noting that China is Serbia’s second-largest trading partner as well as the second-largest source of tourists to Serbia.
The Belgrade–Budapest railway section on the territory of Serbia has been fully opened to traffic, while major infrastructure projects implemented by Chinese companies, such as the Expo project and the new bridge over the Sava River, are making steady progress, the Ambassador noted.
He also added that progress has been made in cooperation in the fields of scientific and technological innovation, green energy and artificial intelligence.
Recalling that the two countries have marked 70 years of friendship, the Ambassador underlined that people-to-people exchanges, especially among young people, have flourished, and that cooperation between twin cities has continued to deepen.
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Marina Raguš, members of the Chinese diaspora, as well as Serbian artists – Dragoljub Bajić, Director of the National Theatre, and musician Slobodan Trkulja, who also took part in the exceptionally rich cultural programme.
The first performance as part of the Happy Spring Festival event was also held this evening at the Chinese Cultural Centre, for which the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Sichuan Opera and the Chengdu Vocational University of Arts, the Kolo Ensemble, the National Theatre in Belgrade, as well as the Balkanopolis Orchestra.
