Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović pointed to the permanent obligation to preserve the truth and a culture of remembrance in a speech delivered today at the Menorah in Flames monument on the Danube Quay in Belgrade marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Starović emphasised that the Holocaust is not only a historical event, but a profound moral wound to humanity and a warning of what happens when hatred is institutionalised and indifference towards others becomes a social norm.
The Minister stressed that the remembrance of the Holocaust is not a matter of choice, but an obligation to the victims, the truth and future generations, as well as a firm bulwark against any attempt at historical revisionism.
He particularly warned of the worrying rise of antisemitism in Europe, as well as phenomena that relativise or minimise the crimes of Nazism and its allies, emphasising that the denial and justification of crimes represent the first step towards their repetition.
