Continuation of cooperation with EU to strengthen democratic processes

Belgrade, 20 January 2026

Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women Tatjana Macura met today with Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath to discuss the advancement of cooperation between Serbia and the Union.

The meeting also discussed the current socio-political situation and the further strengthening of policies in the field of gender equality and the protection of human rights.

The interlocutors emphasised the importance of including all social actors in an open and constructive dialogue, in order to best respond to the challenges of the current socio-political situation.

Macura noted that in conditions of pronounced polarisation in society, the office headed by her and the government as a whole are working diligently to return the dialogue to the institutions.

The Minister expressed a clear position on Serbia’s European path, emphasising strong support for the European integration process and commitment to more intensive cooperation with EU institutions in order to raise citizens’ trust in the accession process to a higher level.

The meeting expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation, as well as mutual readiness for its further development with the aim of strengthening democratic processes and improving the position of all citizens of Serbia.
