The Ministry of Defence announced today that, on the basis of a conclusion adopted by the Government of Serbia and in coordination with the relevant United Nations services and the mission command, the Serbian Armed Forces have disengaged the military hospital from the United Nations peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic.

The engagement was formally concluded in the first days of this year, when the last members of the Serbian Armed Forces who had been serving in the military hospital over the previous six months returned to Serbia.
The Serbian military hospital had been deployed in the Central African Republic since 2014, when the Serbian Armed Forces responded to a UN call to support the stabilisation of the security and humanitarian situation in the country and deployed a medical contingent.
With the disengagement of the military hospital, an important segment of Serbia’s participation in this peacekeeping operation has been completed, while Serbian staff officers and military observers continue their engagement.
The Serbian Armed Forces remain committed to continued participation in peacekeeping operations, in accordance with decisions of the relevant state authorities and the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia.
Currently, more than 200 members of the Serbian Armed Forces are deployed in nine peacekeeping operations in Africa and the Middle East, the statement recalls.
