Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today paid a working visit to Vrnjačka Banja, where he toured key healthcare and infrastructure projects and spoke with citizens and representatives of the local self-government.
Macut visited the Merkur Special Hospital, where more than 20,000 patients with diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders are treated annually across various programmes and groups, highlighting the institution’s exceptional medical potential.
The Prime Minister spoke with staff and, together with the doctors on duty, examined several patients, underscoring the importance of further improving healthcare and of continued investment in working conditions for health professionals, as well as in strengthening health tourism in Vrnjačka Banja.
The Prime Minister also toured the final works on the indoor swimming pool at the Merkur Palace Hotel, as well as the local Grammar School, which is an example of a modern and experimental school with a complete educational structure.
During a walk through the central town park, he also spoke with citizens about issues important to everyday life and the municipality’s further development.
Macut also discussed with representatives of the local self-government the level of implementation of ongoing projects and plans to improve infrastructure and tourism, with particular emphasis placed on enhancing citizens’ quality of life.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Vrnjačka Banja will continue to develop, bearing in mind the numerous projects currently under way and planned.
He added that the fact that the unemployment rate has been reduced to the level of the national average, standing at 9%, is particularly encouraging, as it demonstrates a clear positive development trend.
