At the marking of International Human Rights Day, Prime Minister Macut emphasised that human rights are a shared responsibility, they do not belong to any ideology, political party or government, but to every person.
The Prime Minister stated that significant steps have been taken in the field of improving human and minority rights in recent years, from strengthening institutions, legislative amendments, to concrete projects on the ground, so that every member of a minority, child and citizen knows that the state stands behind them.
Only if we believe in these postulates, can we build a state that looks to the future, that develops and progresses, but does not forget that man is at its core, because any progress in the economy, infrastructure, technology or education will be valuable only if it is accompanied by progress in respecting human dignity, he said.
Prime Minister Macut cited the Sretenje Constitution of 1835, which states “When a slave steps onto Serbian soil, from that moment he becomes free”, indicating that Serbia can proudly boast of a culture of respect for human rights, and stated that today is a special occasion to remind us of the fundamental values of the modern world: freedom, justice, dignity and peace.
The Prime Minister thanked the relevant Minister Demo Beriša and the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue for their dedicated work, highlighting their important role on the path of respect for diversity, dialogue and equal opportunities for all, as well as international partners for their continuous support, advice and joint projects – the United Nations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and others.
At the ceremony organised by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue under the slogan “Human Rights – the Foundation of Freedom, Justice and Peace”, Prime Minister Macut said that this slogan is not just a formal message, but a shared responsibility and that only if we believe in it, can we build a state that looks to the future, develops and progresses, but does not forget that man is at its focus.
As part of the ceremony, a short video material was shown on the work of the Ministry in the field of human rights, in which the relevant Minister Demo Beriša said that the activities of the Ministry have been raised to a higher level this year, emphasising that dialogue is currently the most important for our society.
