Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that Serbia, despite the difficult times the entire world is facing, remains an attractive foreign investment destination.
At the presentation of the Foreign Investors Council’s (FIC) White Book 2025, Macut said that Serbia seeks to become a regional centre of innovation, logistics, renewable energy sources and high-tech production.
He underlined that the FIC has become an important part of Serbia’s economic landscape and that its valuable advice helps the government improve the business environment to the benefit of the economy and the state of Serbia, as well as its citizens.
According to him, Serbia’s fiscal discipline is reflected in the projected gradual reduction of the budget deficit from 3% of GDP during the investment cycle to 2.5% of GDP by 2028, as well as in the continuously low public debt as a share of GDP, of 43%-44%.
Owing to a responsible monetary policy, the dinar’s exchange rate has remained stable and foreign currency reserves have been maintained, at a record high of more than €29 billion, the Prime Minister noted.
He underlined that the pillars on which Serbia is building its future economy are infrastructure, energy security, accelerated transition to sustainable energy sources, digital transformation, investment in research, development and youth education and strengthening capacities at the local level. He also expressed his belief that these sectors will be the new driving force of the Serbian economy.
The Prime Minister recalled that Serbia is currently building 28 industrial zones, and that the construction of another four should start by the end of the year, which will create space for innovation and new technologies.
He emphasised that Serbia will continue to pursue a policy of openness to capital, knowledge, ideas and to every person, adding that the country will continue to strive to ensure that every company, regardless of its place of origin, has a level playing field and equal opportunities for success.
