On the first day of the Summit, a new political declaration has been adopted by which the states, including Serbia, reinstate their full commitment to the goals of sustainable development and building a more just society.
The declaration represents an innovative framework in the field of guiding the implementation of the Agenda for Sustainable Development, and its adoption represents an important moment in global efforts to accelerate social progress, eradicate poverty and build more inclusive, just and sustainable societies.
This declaration reaffirms the commitment to the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Programme of Action and the Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations in 2015, which, in addition to economic and environmental, has a strong social dimension.
Today’s opening ceremony was addressed by President of the United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Lok Bahadur Thapa and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Minister Žarić Kovačević will address the plenary session.
