The interlocutors discussed current cooperation and future directions of its development, noting positive developments in the field of child protection, the development of population policy and a modern approach to various demographic challenges, as well as in the field of encouraging births and overall protection of reproductive health.
It was assessed that there is room for intensifying cooperation, in order to achieve better results.
The interlocutors emphasised that Serbia, with the support of the UN Population Fund, will begin developing a Strategy for Family and Demography, and the importance of forming a Council for Family and Demography, headed by Prime Minister Macut, was also highlighted. The task of this body would be to monitor the situation and propose measures for a better demographic picture of Serbia.
The importance of implementing the People Make Cities programme, which is carried out in cooperation with UNDP and includes strengthening human capital and introducing new population policy measures in local communities, was also highlighted.
The organisation of the third national conference Serbia – Our Family, which will bring together a large number of high-ranking officials, experts and researchers from abroad, was announced at the meeting.
With the support of UNICEF, Serbia will begin developing a new strategic framework for the prevention and protection of children from violence, the Strategy for Combating Violence against Children and the accompanying Action Plan, in order to enable effective and coordinated prevention and protection of children from all forms of violence.
In order to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of the planned measures, a functional, multi-sectoral coordination mechanism will be established, which, as emphasised, entails the relaunch and reaffirmation of the very important Council for the Rights of the Child.
