Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica talked today with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Rolf Ekeus and briefed him on the work of the National Minorities' Council and the Office for Human and Minority Rights, established by the government to improve the position of national minorities in Serbia.
Kostunica stressed the government's efforts to increase the number of national minorities employed in public administration and acquainted Ekeus with the government's decision regarding the measures to employ more national minorities in public administration organs.
Kostunica thanked the OSCE for their work in the Bujanovac, Medvedja and Presevo municipalities.
Ekeus stressed that the government measures for improving the status of national minorities are beginning to yield results, adding that the number of interethnic incidents has decreased in Serbia.
The High Commissioner voiced support to the establishing of the ethnic-Albanian minority's National Council and said that the OSCE is interested in contributing to the peacemaking process between the Serbian and ethnic-Albanian population in Kosovo-Metohija.
