During the visit, Prime Minister Macut, together with Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Milan Mojsilović, was briefed on the organisation of work, operational capabilities and daily activities of units deployed in the Ground Safety Zone. Responsible officers informed him about the current security situation, the level of operational readiness and the implementation of daily tasks.
The Prime Minister stressed that he had seen a high level of equipment, modernisation and investment in the infrastructure of the bases, and that significantly better conditions for the life and work of military personnel had been created.
He assessed that members of the Serbian Armed Forces are fully trained and adequately equipped to carry out their tasks, control the administrative line and safeguard the security of citizens, noting that the state continues to invest in the modernisation of the armed forces, infrastructure, equipment and human resources.
After the visit to the Merdare base, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence laid a wreath at the monument to fallen members of the 354th Infantry Brigade who died during the NATO aggression in Kuršumlija, within the grounds of the Toplički Ustanak barracks.
It was emphasised on this occasion that remembrance of fallen members of the Serbian Armed Forces is a permanent duty of the state and the people, and that the Republic of Serbia will continue to foster a culture of remembrance and to preserve with particular respect the memory of all those who gave their lives in defence of the freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
