The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management stated today, in response to public comments regarding African swine fever in the region, that this animal infectious disease has affected a large number of European countries for several years, regardless of national borders.

In the previous period, the Republic of Serbia has implemented all measures in line with international standards and recommendations of the European Commission and the World Organisation for Animal Health.
These measures include timely detection and reporting of hotspots, euthanasia of infected animals and strengthened movement control, particularly in border areas.
Serbia will continue to act responsibly, with the aim of protecting livestock production and preserving animal health.
The Ministry is convinced that the fight against African swine fever is a shared challenge for all countries in the region and requires cooperation, exchange of experiences and mutual support.
The Ministry remains ready to cooperate with counterparts from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and all neighbouring countries to ensure effective suppression of the disease, according to the statement.
