Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today in the meeting with US envoy for negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija Frank Wiesner that the Serbian government has expressed readiness to build a new truly essential autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija together with the Albanian community and based on democratic European principles and values.
Kostunica said that it is very important that there is readiness for talks and added that for the first time in history of Serbian-Albanian longstanding relations there is an opportunity for us to incorporate European experience and standards into the province’s common future.
He stressed that it is of importance and essential interest for the Serbian government that the southern Serbian province develops democratically and that the Albanian, Serbian and all other communities in Kosovo-Metohija progress in many ways.
The Serbian Prime Minister especially emphasised that Serbia as a European democratic country has enough statehood experience to accept and secure the best measure of autonomy for the province.
At the same time, Serbia has enough statehood experience not to let an Albanian state be created on 15% of its own territory, said Kostunica.
Wiesner said that it is important and necessary to continue and intensify talks between Belgrade and Pristina.
