Best option in autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia to be sought through agreement

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today in a written statement issued regarding forthcoming talks in Vienna that compromise must be given a chance, and the best option in autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia should be sought through agreement.

“I believe that at this moment with talks coming up in Vienna, the whole of Serbia supports the responsible, democratic and national policy according to which we represent our province of Kosovo-Metohija.

Serbia is firmly determined to reach an agreement for peace and stable development of the southern province and Serbia, with patience through talks, while respecting democratic values and principles upon which the international order rests.

It was not yesterday that Serbia came into existence and is capable of guarding its long-term state and national interests. The sooner the dangerous idea of creating a new country upon the territory of Serbia is forgotten the better it will be for everyone, and of course, for the lasting stability of the entire region.

We must give a chance to compromise, and find the best option in autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia through agreement. We all share the great responsibility of building stability, peace and a democratic order which is based upon the principles of international law and democratic values, in the Balkans,” reads the statement of the Serbian Prime Minister.
