The Ministry of Mining and Energy announced tonight that the United States Treasury Department has postponed, for the fifth time, the application of sanctions on Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) for 30 days.
Minister Dubravka Đedović Handanović emphasised that it was not possible to obtain a longer postponement at this time, and explained that this is a matter of global politics, relations and negotiations between world powers, which are very complex.
The sanctions were postponed after a difficult and arduous diplomatic struggle of members of the government and the President of Serbia, but the most important thing is that we managed to obtain another, fifth postponement, she pointed out.
The Minister emphasised that, despite the complex circumstances in which it operates, NIS continues to regularly supply the domestic market with all types of oil derivatives and remains committed to preserving energy stability.
She expressed gratitude to the Government of Hungary for its support to NIS.
