Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović met with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today to discuss cooperation on the project to build the Bistrica pumped-storage hydropower plant and securing financing for its implementation.

This is the third time that JICA’s expert team has visited Serbia, led by Eri Nakamura, JICA’s Director for Europe.
Đedović Handanović emphasised that both sides have so far demonstrated strong commitment to the project.
Our teams are in constant contact, analysing technical challenges and seeking the best solutions to overcome them, she stated.
The meeting addressed the development of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study, the procedures within JICA related to financing approval and the preparation of the next steps in the project’s implementation.
Nakamura said that the Bistrica project is of strategic importance for JICA and that the Japanese side will make additional efforts to complete the project assessment efficiently as soon as the Environmental Impact Assessment Study is finalised.
