Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić spoke today with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Serbia Deyana Kostadinova about children's rights in our country and opportunities for their advancement.
Vujić informed Kostadinova about plans to amend the Law on juvenile perpetrators of criminal offences and criminal legal protection of juveniles, which dates back to 2005.
He pointed out that the juvenile legislation will pay special attention to child victims, who often become perpetrators of criminal offences themselves, as has been shown in practice.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the protection of children in contact with the justice system, the improvement of the legal framework, the training of professionals working with children, as well as the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in order to protect the best interests of the child.
Also, the possibilities of further cooperation within the framework of joint projects and programmes implemented by the Ministry of Justice and UNICEF were discussed, such as the strengthening of the Juvenile Justice Council in its advisory role in advancing the justice agenda for children.
