Preventive health care centre opened in Valjevo

Valjevo, 5 July 2006

Serbian Minister of Health Tomica Milosavljevic opened today a preventive health care centre within the Valjevo Health Centre. He said on the occasion that 161 health centers in Serbia will undergo urgent renovation and will be provided with all the necessary equipment.

The centre has been opened within the framework of the project "Improvement of Preventive Health Services in Serbia", being implemented jointly by the Serbian Ministry of Health and the European Agency for Reconstruction.

The Minister said that this project has included 25 health centers in Serbia thus far, which should be the coordinative hub for resources in health centers in prevention of cardiovascular, diabetes and malignant diseases.

He said that the Ministry of Health will invest €3 million in the reconstruction of Valjevo hospital this year, and the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Services will provide 4.6 million dinars for completing the construction of the Divcibar Health Centre, which is expected to begin work in September this year.
