Strategic cooperation with Romania to strengthen energy security

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated today, during the 103rd session of the Serbia-Romania Joint Commission for Đerdap, that Serbia and Romania are developing important projects that will contribute to greater energy security.

Đedović Handanović said that addressing practical issues along the shared border and promoting regional cooperation in infrastructure, transport, environmental protection and energy is important in order to develop a framework for strategic dialogue and concrete initiatives.

The Minister remarked that, according to reports by the Energy Community, Serbia has been the regional leader in the electricity sector and renewable energy sources for two years running, noting that the work of the joint commission could help expand bilateral cooperation to include substantial energy projects.

Gas interconnection with Romania will create conditions for greater diversification of gas sources, she said, adding that cooperation agreements have already been signed and are due to be implemented in the period ahead.

Serbia remains a reliable and open partner, ready for strategic cooperation with Romania aimed at strengthening regional energy security and accelerating the green transition, Đedović Handanović concluded.

Romanian Ambassador to Serbia Silvia Davidoiu pointed out that dialogue and cooperation in the energy sector are the most fruitful and dynamic areas of the two countries’ bilateral relations.
