Serbia, WOAH strengthen cooperation in field of animal health

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, discussed the key priorities of the relevant ministry with Regional Representative for Europe of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) Budimir Plavšić, PhD.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 92nd International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad, highlighted the key role of WOAH international standards, effective surveillance and bio security measures in preventing and controlling these destructive diseases.

The upcoming GF-TADs Conference for Europe, to be held in Belgrade from 22 September, has been recognised as a key platform for the exchange of best practices and the enhancement of cross-border cooperation on priority animal diseases.

Glamočić expressed interest in achieving the status of a country officially free of classical swine fever and peste des petits ruminants, which is already being worked on.

Plavšić highlighted the importance of strengthening the Veterinary Service and encouraging cooperation between all stakeholders as the basis for effective disease prevention.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the Veterinary Administration reaffirmed their commitment to active cooperation with WOAH, which is of key importance for the improvement of animal health, welfare and trade in Serbia and the wider region.
